چکیده
Abstract Background Introduction: Neutrophils and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play a significant role in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC), chronic relapsing inflammatory disease colon. Low-density neutrophils (LDNs) are recently identified subset that more prone to develop NETs produce pro-inflammatory cytokines calprotectin than normal density. Moreover, LDNs show reduced phagocytotic activity towards bacteria. subclassified as mature (CD15+CD14-CD10+) immature (CD15+CD14-CD10-) based on CD10 expression, which most pro-inflammatory. have been number autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis, rheumatoid arthritis, but not yet studied UC. Objective Examine existence UC patients their possible association severity. Methods A total 13 healthy controls 20 with were included. Their clinical was evaluated Truelove-Witts score. subtypes quantified by flow cytometry peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Results The relative abundance significantly higher compared (1.55±1.14 vs. 0.62±0.36 respectively, P<0.05). numbers active those remission (2.67±1.36 1.09±0.55; P<0.05) (Figure 1). positively correlated index (rho=.530, fecal levels (OR=1.2, P<0.05, CI=1-1.36) illustrated Figure 2. 1 2 Conclusion elevated PBMCs associated activity.

correlation between low bone density and disease activity in patients with ulcerative colitis
background different clinical and epidemiological studies using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry have shown an increased prevalence of low bone mineral density in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases.the aim of this study was to assess the correlation between bone density and the disease activity in patients with ulcerative colitis. methods in this cross-sectional study, 52 patients with u...
متن کاملCytomegalovirus infection associated with ulcerative colitis in immunocompetent individuals.
Gastrointestinal infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV) is usually found in immunocompromised patients and rarely affects immunocompetent subjects. We describe two immunocompetent patients who had primary CMV infection, and in both the disease was associated with ulcerative colitis. Both patients recovered from the CMV infection spontaneously.
متن کاملPulmonary function in ulcerative colitis
Abstract Background: Pulmonary involvement in ulcerative colitis (UC) is thought to be rare. There is not a definite document about the question that "Is the lung a target organ in inflammatory bowel disease?" The aim of the present study is to compare lung function between cases with UC and healthy controls. This study will also be of interest about searching the outbreak of pulmonary functio...
متن کاملSerum Complement Levels in Active Ulcerative Colitis.
The present study was originally stimulated by Long's (1963) observations on patients with burns. Many patients became ill with a pyrexia 10 to 14 days after burning and often this illness could not be explained by infection. Long found very low serum complement levels in these patients and produced a striking clinical improvement by transfusing fresh defibrinated blood which restored complemen...
متن کاملSerum Interleukin-23 Levels in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis
Background: Patients with ulcerative colitis are at increased risk of inflammation. Interleukin 23 (IL-23) is a newly identified cytokine with increased expression in inflamed biopsies of colon mucosa in patients with Crohn's disease; however, there is inconsistent evidence on its role in ulcerative colitis. Objective: We aimed to compare serum IL-23 level in patients with ulcerative colitis an...
